    WAS IT MORE ENTERTAINING THEN???

Well......advantage Chelski then....looking at the highlights City will be kicking themselves to not get the crucial 2nd goal which surely would have meant a different result but that result could be very decisive as we enter the busy Xmas period of matches...

Anyhoo what with that enthralling game plus the various other end to end matches and goalfests we had over the weekend not least the amazing turnaround game at Bournemouth....it left me thinking this would be a good QUESTION OF THE WEEK.... IS THE PREMIER LEAGUE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN THE OLD 1ST DIVISION WAS??

Now of course we have had some great , great teams starting back in the 60's with the double winning Spurs team and the greatest striker ( in my view) in Jimmy Greaves, in the 70's and 80's we had multiple great Liverpool teams who won everything in sight, including being European Champions and then of course Man United started their dominance but what about entertainment?

I personally think the 3 points for a win instead of two changed things and then the back pass rule changed things even more dramatically..... Now you could argue that there was entertainment in the kind of challenges you were able to get away with in those days , that the speed of the game nowadays and the tracking back and pressing that every player has to do in the modern game stifles the creativity of any budding George Best , Glenn Hoddle or Kenny Dalglish ...and you might possibly be right...

So come on all of you that are old enough to remember watching footie in the 60's , 70's and 80's ....is it more entertaining now... or then?? Or was it just more fun to watch back then??

RE: WAS IT MORE ENTERTAINING THEN??? More entertaining.....boll**ks!!!!
Yes there are less games played out for a draw but the games are played by overated overpaid prima donnas....as exemplified by that sneaky Fabregas......hope the FA "slap" him with a three match ban.....Big girls blouse!!!!!
In the old days you'd have tackles like rojos and aguerro in every match.
Everyone would man up and square up properly against on another....I remember two "giants" of the game...Billy Bremner and Kevin Keegan going at it in the charity cup final.

Now it's too much hype over too little quality..... Posted 5th December 2016 - by Phil S (Dirty Leeds)

RE: WAS IT MORE ENTERTAINING THEN??? Do we think it is really better or is it just the progress of change......it's like asking the question which group is better...... the Beatles or One Direction.....know which one gets my vote... Posted 5th December 2016 - by Phil S (Dirty Leeds)

RE: WAS IT MORE ENTERTAINING THEN??? You gotta also bear in mind the pitches in those days mate. Nowadays it's like playing on a carpet. So really the likes of Brady or Keegan would look even better!

I personally think it's far too fast though nowadays and it's more about fitness than ever before now the pressing tactic is the latest favourite ploy. Posted 5th December 2016 - by Tom The Toon S (Newcastle United Man!)
